Our Practices
-
Semi-Permaculture
We draw greatly on permaculture principles and are working toward a closed-loop system where nothing leaves the land and we continuously build a living organic ecosystem that benefits plants, animals, and humans!
-
Beauty In Function
We believe that design and function are not in contrast to each other; that with the right materials, knowledge of the ecosystem, and clever planning, functional systems become beautiful.
-
Building for Generations
This garden came to us from the hard work and loving care of generations before us and much of what they built will outlive us. We strive to build similarly long-lasting systems and spaces that will only improve with age.
-
Compost & Soil Health
We are committed to applying regenerative agriculture practices. We strive for a closed-loop nutrient cycle by composting organic materials such as chicken manure, kitchen scraps, and garden debris. This nutrient-rich compost is then used to enrich our soils. We plant cover crops to naturally build and protect the soil, enhance soil structure, prevent erosion, and foster a biodiverse ecosystem that supports the health of our farm and contributes to a balanced, thriving environment.

There are many ways to peel an apple...
There are so many valuable traditions of gardening, farming, food processing, and cooking and we want to try them all! The garden is designed to show many different techniques of design, materials, agricultural methods, international food crops, and even spaces that evoke different feelings or states of mind.
